“Critz is sprung poise personified–Listen to the purity, slowness, and silence between phrases.”
“draws blood without overstatement…quiet resistance over the loud and overstimulated cultural moment”
“Arash Noori’s limpid, calligraphic playing extends this rhetoric…Stephanie Noori’s gamba…its dark resonance is like a wide‑angle lens, revealing the collective interiority Dowland’s posturing solitude”
“extra special”

Dowland was the most celebrated lutenist-composer of his age, and the one who turned sorrow into a discipline.
The thirteen pieces gathered here span his whole career — the early Solus cum sola, the emblematic Flow my teares, the virtuosic Sir John Smith's Almain, the late and desolate In darknesse let mee dwell — drawn from the four printed Bookes of Songs or Ayres and from the Margaret Board and Matthew Holmes lute manuscripts.
