Out Today: Composer Rami Levin’s debut album “WINGS”“Asas (Wings),” the title track on this debut album by composer Rami Levin, is inspired by the calls of two Brazilian birds heard "while composing in my study in Rio de Janeiro,” and brought to life by clarinetist Barbara Drapcho, violinist Mathias Tacke, and pianist Kuang-Hao Huang. Each piece on the album tells a story, and each track displays the breadth of Levin’s musical artistry, personality, talent, and playful humor. One of the two song cycles on the album, “Três Canções,” performed by Alisa Jordheim and Kuang-Hao Huang, is a charming setting of Portuguese texts written by the 7-year old daughter of a Brazilian friend. In the other set, "Four English Songs for soprano, flute, harp, and guitar," Alisa is accompanied by Eugenia Moliner, Lillian Lau, and Denis Azabagić. Denis also performs "Saudade" a haunting solo guitar track released as a single earlier this month. Chicago-based Quintet Attacca (Jennifer Clippert, Erica Burtner Anderson, Barbara Drapcho, Collin Anderson, Jeremiah Frederick) performs the fiendish and exciting fast ride "Reflections of Reflections (11.11.11)," which they commissioned. Eugenia Moliner and Lillian Lau perform "Caprichosa (Capricious) for flute and harp," and Anthony Devroye and Kuang-Hao present a new virtuosic work for the viola and piano repertoire, "Línguas Fraternas (Fraternal Languages)."
